2 Corinthians 5:6-7
“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.”
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”
We have recently tried to stop watching the news! Why? Well because the news isn’t really the news. If you are like me you want to know what is happening in these strange times. We want to know what is going on but I am finding and have been reliably informed by trustworthy authorities that the news can be not fake but distorted. The news tends to be sensational, spectacular, shocking and wholly negative. Otherwise it is not the news! On top of that we are swamped with information on social media that is so often unreliable and untrustworthy! So, what do we do? Well we look for reliable and trustworthy and dependable news sources and avoid the noise from the shallow end of the pool. And that is what the word ‘faithful’ means in our passages. Something worthy of our belief. Faithful means reliable and sure. And that is what we find in God and that is what God wants to find in us. Faith is not believing something we know is not true but just the opposite! Faith is confidence that we can rely on a trustworthy Saviour who loves and cares for us, especially in times of trouble. Faithfulness on our part is that we stand firm and faithful to the Lord that we have faith in. Through all the changes and chances of this present world we trust in God. And God is worthy of our trust.
